MARY HEALTH WISH LIST 2009

Medi-Cal Reimbursement Shortfall

The mission of Mary Health of the Sick is to provide quality care to all individuals, no matter their religious beliefs or ability to pay. However, the hospital needs enough funds to cover our operating expenses. The government reimbursement rate for our Medi-Cal residents falls far short of our actual costs in the operations of the hospital.

To help offset our annual shortfall, Mary Health looks to its many friends and supporters to help make up the difference. It is estimated that in 2009, Mary Health will need approximately $461,000 to counterbalance our expected Medi-Cal Reimbursment losses.

Certified Nursing Training Program and Continuing Education Program

Mary Health of the Sick is one of the few skilled nursing facilities in the state of California to be granted permission by the Department of Health Services to provide an educational training program that enables individuals to complete the necessary course work to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).

This is a two-fold blessing for our hospital as it not only makes it possible for us to hire more qualified CNAs, but it also gives us the opportunity to train them from the beginning to meet the high standards that Mary Health demands of its employees.

To keep current on all new government regulations and up-to-date on the latest medical advances and techniques, our licensed nurses need to constantly take continuing education courses and attend educational seminars. These study courses and seminars range from $70.00 to $250.00 per day.

All monies recieved for educational purposes are greatly appreciated.

Hospital Furniture

Mary Health of the Sick is constantly seeking to improve the quality of the hospital environment. New furniture for our hospital is badly needed. Our furniture needs include everything from hospital beds to office furnishings.

Household furniture is costly, but hospital furniture is outrageously expensive. It must meet all government fire and safety codes, be extremely durable, the fabrics must be water and odor impermeable, and the furniture must be lightweight, portable and easily stored.

Our financial projection for this investment for the year 2009 is $30,000.
