Since Mary Health of the Sick Hospital opened in 1964, dedicated volunteers have played a vital role in helping the Servants of Mary care for the sick entrusted to them. Today, that altruistic tradition continues in a number of volunteer opportunities through a loving and caring partnership of professional staff, volunteer colleagues, and other community and corporate supporters.
Volunteer teams are comprised of various religious faiths, including Catholic, Jewish, and interdenominational believers. They come from Greater Los Angeles and Ventura County, including the surrounding cities of Agoura Hills, Westlake, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park and Moorpark. In fact, Mary Health has one of the largest volunteer programs in Ventura County.
Every year, Mary Health volunteers dedicate literally thousands of hours to help our staff members. When translated into dollars, they represent a cost savings of $200,000 annually in human resource expense. More importantly, our volunteers offer services necessary to meet the diverse needs of our residents, assisting them in becoming self-sufficient and able to live the remaining days of their lives with love and dignity.
